Ford uses one service short block for all 2011-2019 F-250 to F-550 pickups and cab and chassis trucks, so every year and truck type here is one price. Choose your model year (2011-2014, 2015-2016 or 2017-2019) and your truck type above so we ship the right engine for your truck and match any add-ons to it.
Confirm your engine
-
Model year: the injectors, CP4.2 fuel pump, turbocharger and water pump differ by year. 2015-2016 and 2017-2019 turbos are not interchangeable without a turbo pedestal kit, and some 2016 pickups (built from February 2016) use the 2017-style turbo, so we match by VIN and build date.
-
Pickup or cab and chassis: Ford uses the same service short block for both. Cab and chassis trucks use a different turbo, and 2015-2016 cab and chassis trucks use the 2011-2014 style injectors and CP4.2 pump, so choose your truck type above. F-450 pickups (with a factory pickup bed) use pickup parts, so choose Pickup.
-
Not for F-650/F-750: this long block fits 2011-2019 F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks only. The 2016-2019 F-650/F-750 medium-duty 6.7L is a different engine variant. Aftermarket belt-driven air compressors (for example, VMAC under-hood units) bolt on and don't affect the long block. If your truck has an engine-mounted air compressor, send us your VIN and a photo before ordering.
Send us your VIN with your order to confirm fitment. Not sure which to choose? Call (623) 204-6365 or put your VIN and any questions in the order notes, and we'll confirm before we build.

New Ford engine oil cooler: $199
Injectors, the CP4.2 pump and the turbocharger differ by year and between pickups and cab and chassis trucks, and the primary water pump differs by year (it is the same for pickups and cab and chassis), so we match them to your truck by VIN.
Not included
- Turbocharger, CP4.2 high-pressure fuel pump and fuel injectors. Transfer these from your old engine or add them above.
- Oil pan, valve covers, front cover, vibration damper and exhaust manifolds. Transfer these from your old engine.
Reuse parts from your truck only if they are in good condition; a worn injector or pump can damage a new engine. If your old engine failed because of a CP4.2 pump failure, metal can spread through the whole fuel system (injectors, rails and lines), so the fuel system must be replaced or cleaned before the new engine goes in. A used oil cooler can also hold debris from a failed engine.
Delivery type
- Business with dock/forklift or terminal pickup: free
- Business without dock (lift gate): +$100
- Residential (includes lift gate): +$300
Shipping is free within the Continental United States to commercial addresses with a forklift/dock or terminal pickup. If the delivery address doesn't match the delivery type selected, the difference will be charged before shipping. Alaska & Hawaii: online checkout isn't available for engines shipping to AK or HI. Call 623-204-6365 for a freight quote before ordering. Ships on a pallet in a fully enclosed wooden crate, approx. 1,100 lb crated.
Break-in
A diesel's piston rings seat under load, not at idle. Following these steps is required to keep your warranty.
-
Before you install: find and fix whatever caused the old engine to fail. You must install a new oil cooler to keep your warranty, because the old cooler can hold metal and debris from the failed engine (add our new Ford engine oil cooler add-on for $199). Flush or replace the radiators, coolers and lines, and clean the intake, intercooler and EGR system so no debris from the old engine gets in. If the old engine or fuel system had metal in it or bad fuel (water, DEF or gasoline), or the CP4 pump failed, replace the entire high-pressure fuel system (pump, lines, both rails and all 8 injectors); also drain and clean the tank, replace both fuel filters, flush the low-pressure lines and inspect the frame-mounted fuel module (DFCM). Replace any high-pressure fuel line that has been removed or loosened; don't reuse them. If the old turbo failed and oil got into the exhaust, drain the exhaust before reinstalling it and don't run a manual regen.
-
Oil: use about 13 quarts (with filter) of conventional (non-synthetic) heavy-duty diesel oil meeting Ford spec WSS-M2C171-F1. Ford's main grade is 10W-30; 15W-40 is fine when temperatures stay above 20°F. Don't use synthetic oil, break-in additives or friction modifiers during break-in. The engine ships pre-lubed (assembly lube applied), but it has not been run or cold-tested, so still pre-fill the new oil filter, then pre-lube the engine with a pressure pre-lubricator until oil reaches the rocker arms, and confirm pressure on a manual gauge. Pour clean oil into the turbo's oil inlet before connecting the feed line.
-
Coolant (two systems): the 6.7 has a primary and a secondary cooling system, each with its own degas bottle. Fill both with Motorcraft Orange coolant (prediluted, or concentrate mixed with distilled water). Never mix coolant types. A vacuum filler is best; bleed both systems per the Ford workshop procedure.
-
Prime the fuel system: turn the key to ON (don't crank) for 30 seconds, then OFF. Repeat at least 6 times to run the lift pump and purge air. Don't crank more than 10 seconds at a time, don't open the high-pressure lines to bleed them, and never use starting fluid.
-
First start: because the engine has not been run or cold-tested, do Ford's key-on fuel priming first (key ON for 30 seconds, then OFF, at least 6 times, without cranking). Don't touch the pedal while starting. Let it idle until oil pressure reads normal and check for leaks (about 3 minutes if a turbo was installed), then hold 1,500-2,000 rpm until the thermostats open. Keep this first run short (about 5-10 minutes). Once it cools, recheck the oil and both degas bottles and top up.
-
First 1,000 miles: vary your speed and load and avoid long, steady cruising. Don't labor or lug the engine, and don't rev it while parked. Avoid idling for long periods. No trailer towing for the first 500 miles. Let DPF regenerations finish (steady driving above 30 mph helps) and don't ignore "drive to clean" messages. Watch your gauges and check the oil and coolant levels often.
-
At 500 miles: change the oil and filter. Stay on non-synthetic oil until after this first oil change, then follow your truck's maintenance schedule. Keep all receipts.
Long idling or light-load driving during break-in can glaze the cylinders, which leads to oil burning and low power. See our break-in procedure for more.
Warranty, core and performance parts
Warranty: 1-year unlimited-mile warranty on the engine only; labor is not covered. Optional 3-year extended warranty available for $1,500 (includes labor coverage at $50/hr). A new oil cooler must be installed to keep the warranty, because the old cooler can hold metal and debris from the failed engine; add our new Ford engine oil cooler add-on ($199). The warranty does not cover damage caused by contaminated fuel or by debris from a failed fuel system (such as a CP4 pump failure) if the fuel system was not fully cleaned or replaced as described in the "Before you install" break-in step above. See our Warranty & Refund Policy. Add the 3-year extended warranty to your order.
Core charge: $3,500, refundable, added at checkout as a separate core item. You have 30 days to return your old engine (core). We pay the return freight: when it's ready, we email you a return label, and you ship the core back on the same pallet your new engine came on.
Performance parts: we do not blueprint engines. We can install custom or performance parts you supply (you pay for the parts and shipping them to us; no extra installation charge), but this waives the 1-year warranty.
