Fitment

Confirm your engine: how to tell Romeo from Windsor

• Valve cover bolts: Romeo has 11 bolts per valve cover; Windsor has 13 (driver side) and 14 (passenger side).
• Block casting: Romeo blocks are usually cast with an "R"; Windsor blocks have a "W" cast on the driver-side block skirt and the front of the block.
• Cam gears: bolted on (Romeo) vs pressed on (Windsor).
• Engine ID label: the engine label can show the plant (for example, Windsor, Ontario) and the engine ID.
• VIN: the VIN alone isn't reliable, especially on the 1996-2004 Mustang GT, which reads X for both plants. Engines may also have been swapped.

Notes

• Romeo and Windsor 4.6L 2-valve engines look alike, but many parts don't interchange (cylinder heads, valve covers, timing covers, cam gears and crankshaft flange), and oil pans and accessories differ between cars, trucks and vans.
• 2002-2004 Explorer / Mountaineer engines use an aluminum block.

Built in our full-service in-house machine shop. Reused and remachined: connecting rods, crankshaft and cylinder heads. New OEM or aftermarket parts: bearings, rings, pistons, lifters, valves, timing components, camshafts, rockers and more.

• Machined, milled and polished internals (crankshaft, block, cylinder bores)
• All new bearings and parts: main and rod bearings, pistons, piston rings, head gaskets, timing set and guides
• Cylinder heads fully machined: 3-angle performance valve job including seats, diamond mill finish, new valve seals

Shipping is free within the Continental United States to commercial addresses with a forklift/dock or terminal pickup. If the delivery address doesn't match the delivery type selected, the difference will be charged before shipping. Alaska & Hawaii: online checkout isn't available for engines shipping to AK or HI. Break-in

The first 1,000 miles are the break-in period. Use conventional oil only, change the oil and filter at 500 miles, vary your RPM, and avoid towing, heavy loads and long idling. Check your oil level regularly, since some oil burn-off is normal until the rings seat. Following the break-in procedure is required to keep your warranty.

Warranty and core

Warranty: 1-year unlimited-mile warranty on the engine only; labor is not covered. Optional 3-year extended warranty available for $1,500 (includes labor coverage at $50/hr). See our Warranty & Refund Policy. Add the 3-year extended warranty to your order.
